This little girl lived next door to my son, daughter-in-law, grandson and granddaughter. Each morning and throughout the day she would come outside, peak through the fence and call out, "Best friend, best friend," in this lilting voice. At some point in the day my granddaughter would go over and talk to her, sometimes having a 'sand' tea party. For me it was important to capture that little girl, peaking through the fence, the curious look on her face, with a backdrop of that old mint green house. Sitting on the fence to left is that teacup, decorated with her words, "Best friend." The fence clearly separates this little girl from both the teacup and the bike and the hoped-for best friend on the other side.
